Lincoln Electric Automation Inc., Coldwater is a leader in the design, build and integration of specialized equipment for discrete manufacturing primarily serving companies in the automotive, aviation, aerospace, appliance and energy industries that are producing products requiring tight tolerances. With over 50 years’ experience, the company’s key competencies include precision machining and assembly, engineering support, design and build of specialized manufacturing equipment, and solid-state welding/joining systems.

The company was originally established in 1954 as a tool and die machine shop by three young, local entrepreneurs. A few years later Jerry Meyer joined CMC, eventually acquiring full ownership of the organization. Since its founding, the company has steadily grown and expanded to support changing customer needs. In 1999, the company moved into its current home, which was originally developed as a green field 87,000 sq. ft. facility located on 20 acres.

To support the company’s growing activity in the design and build of specialty factory automation cells, an additional 30,000 sq. ft. was added to the existing plant in 2013. Coldwater now has three manufacturing crane bays with 25-ton capacity and over 40 machine tools in addition to inspection and test equipment to support its internal machining needs and the build-to-print activity for customers requiring precision parts.

In 2014, Meyer stepped down and Tim McCaughey was appointed CMC president, with Meyer retaining his position on the board of directors and as a co-owner. Soon after McCaughey came on board, the company established its on-site Solid State Joining Center to further its capability in the development of weld technologies for lightweight and dissimilar materials. This Center provides R&D, weld system design and build, as well as low-run production and prototype services.

Today, Coldwater has grown to 115 employees and its growth pattern continues on a steady upward path. By focusing on the development of new manufacturing technologies to address emerging industry trends, the company is positioned to dynamically meet ever-changing customer needs.
