SIDNEY — This summer Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc. located in Sidney, Ohio, broke a new record. Emerson employed 59 full time co-op/intern students in various positions including engineering and business roles.
The students came from all across Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The largest representation came from the University of Dayton, The Ohio State University and Wright State University respectfully. Additionally, nearly half of the positions were represented by mechanical engineering students. Emerson also employs electrical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, marketing, supply chain, information technology, finance, and human resources students to name a few.
All of the students are required to go through the normal pre-employment process, which includes applying online, interviewing, and completing orientation on their first day of employment. The co-op program allows undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor’s degree to gain valuable hands-on experience in their specific major. All of the co-op positions are paid and students work a full 40 hours a week.
This record summer term came from the growing business conditions and necessity to seek valuable help to maintain market and project demands. Not only does Emerson hire students for the summer term, but fall and spring terms are offered as well. Approximately 40 co-ops students are hired for the spring and fall terms. Students work closely with all employees within their department to gain a well rounded experience. Emerson also provides the opportunity for students to return for additional terms in different departments if the student chooses to gain more experience. During the term, the student and their manager both complete evaluations to review their performance and provide feedback for professional growth.
The Co-op Coordinator at Emerson works with the students and their managers throughout the term to provide constant support. There are a few activities for the students during their term, including an end-of-term appreciation event. The picture provided shows the 2013 summer students who were able to attend the event.
There are only a few co-op positions still available for fall 2013, but stay tuned to our website to view all of the 2014 co-op positions.
