Construction began this past summer on the new site for the 350,000-square-foot building of Ferguson Enterprises, a wholesale distributor of plumbing supplies, pipes, valves, fittings, heating/cooling equipment, and waterworks. Over the last few months, crews have been busy at work completing the earthwork for the site, redirecting sewer, water, and gas lines, and beginning the first steps in framing the new distribution center.
The next item on the agenda is having the roof installed around mid-October and having all the main walls of the building up by the end of October. Interior work will begin after the roof is installed followed by the completion of the front office area by mid-November. Crews will finish all county and state roadway work and the supporting utilities by early November followed by the planting of all grass by mid-November. As the new year rolls around, work will continue on the interior of the center and it is projected to be done around late January to early February. If all goes according to plan, operations will commence the last week of February.
The success of this project would not have been possible without collaboration at the state and local levels. Several improvements needed to be made to the surrounding area of the site as construction began. These improvements totaled around $1.15 million for roadway, water, sewer, and gas line improvements. A $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Ohio Department Services Agency helped fund these improvements, along with a $200,000 629 Grant and a $150,000 ODOT Grant.
The creation of this distribution center in Mercer County will be a great asset to the area. It is the first Ferguson distribution center in the Midwest and it plans to bring in 70 permanent full-time jobs. The company has already posted a handful of jobs on Hometown Opportunity, which can be found here.
